Aesculapius
Aesculapius is the god of medicine and healing in ancient Greek religion. Asclepius represents the healing aspect of the medical arts.
The rod of Asclepius, a snake-entwined staff, remains a symbol of medicine today, although sometimes the caduceus, or staff with two snakes, is used instead. Aesculapius was associated with the Roman / Etruscan god Vediovis. He was one of Apollo's sons. Aesculapian indicates of or belonging to Aesculapius or the healing art of medicine. Aescualpian.com is dedicated to providing free online access to medical literature for healthcare professionals and general public alike. Aesculapian.com aims to identify, acquire, organize and disseminate digital forms of recorded information which are pertinent to health care, research and medical history.
The Library
With rapidly evolving scientific knowledge in medicine, the history of current medical understanding is often neglected. Many classic medical texts remain out of print seemingly irrelevant to modern medicine and difficult to access. Aesculapian aims to compile an online library of out of print books and articles dating back to the historical begining of the medical practice. Aesulapian further encourages research and promotes education in healthcare through the growth and preservation of its literary collections.
